Milli Hill is attempting to persuade Amazon not to carry: "To Train Up a Child" by Debbie and Michael Pearl and other books which advocate physical punishment of children. Here is a link to her blog and the petition for which she is trying to gain support (over 2,000 signatures so far).

Challenging the Need for Cuts

Campaigners have been voicing their anger at cuts to public services in Dorchester today.
Trades Unions, pressure groups, the voluntary sector and concerned members of the public marched through Dorchester to show their love for public services.
The march and rally is ahead of a meeting next week where Councillors will decide which services will be axed.
This is all ahead of the meeting of the County Council meeting on the 17 February where councillors will be deciding which services are to be axed. The march will be supported by the School Crossing Patrol staff who recently presented a 9,000 signature petition to the council and will also be supported by Library cuts protestors who handed in a 13,000 signature petition.
Pamela Jefferies of Unison, Dorset Branch said:
“There is no need for these cuts to public services, especially when the banking sector has just rewarded itself with another round of bonuses of around £7 Billion. Fairer taxation and making the risk takers pay for their actions should be the way forwards, not cuts to services that poorer families and vulnerable people rely on.”
“One of the organisations facing funding cuts locally, the existing careers advisory service for 13 to 19 years olds ‘Connexions’, is being cut across Dorset County by 27%, Poole 55% and Bournemouth 47%. This is at a time when unemployment is soaring and young people are being disproportionately impacted. There is an increased need for a flexible skilled responsive service to support young people into training and employment.
“UNISON will be lobbying the County Council meeting from 08.45am on Thursday 17 February to show its opposition to the cuts agenda.
“Everybody who works in, uses or is funded through the public purse has a vested interest in our campaign and we would urge them to join us on both days.
